ACIS Youth wishlist

Date: Apr 11, 2024

Our ACIS Youth counselling rooms in both our Hub and Schools across Aberdeen, play a crucial role in fostering a comfortable environment, far removed from the traditional clinical setting.

By creating sensory spaces in our counselling rooms, we are able to improve the experience for our youth clients.

ACIS Youth have a counsellor in 11 academy schools and 48 primary schools within the city.

A school-based counsellor brings counselling to children and young people in a place that is familiar to them, and where they can feel safe and secure.

ACIS Youth embraces the uniqueness of each child and supports their freedom to express themselves. their mission to provide accessible support is clearer than ever. They're dedicated to ensuring every child and young person in the community gets the help they need, not just in school but in all aspects of life.

Their impact is remarkable. Through their efforts, countless children have found a safe space to grow and heal.

Here are just a few quotes from pupils and clients who have recently used our services, that sum up the environment that is created by our ACIS Youth counsellors and their rooms;

“The staff are really kind, you feel safe and not judged. And I feel somewhat better compared to first being here”

“I’ve loved having somewhere to talk about things”

"Good to talk through situations in a safe space with a counsellor - It's warm and welcoming"

We've seen how important a welcoming room is for making children feel at ease, thanks to counsellor Gillian at Grammar School. Her room, with its fairy lights and colourful lamps, really wows the children and makes them feel comfortable, highlighting the importance of a nurturing environment.

Inspired by this, we have put together a wishlist to make all our counselling rooms just as inviting. We're looking for things like comfy chairs, soft cushions, cosy blankets, and fun lights to create a calm and welcoming space for our clients. Resources like Play-doh, and board games help young clients open up and communicate their feelings in an age approprate way.
